The Virginia Mortgage Lenders Association (VMLA) is a trade association composed of mortgage lenders, brokers and affiliated industry associates. The association is dedicated to the preservation and improvement of the mortgage lending system. The VMLA Board of Directors encourages its members to use sound and ethical business practices in the making, marketing and servicing of mortgage loans. We promise to keep our members informed of changes in mortgage laws and pending legislation that affect the real estate and mortgage business. Our membership of 700 individuals and 150 organizations supports Virginia communities by opening doors for literally thousands of homeowners each year. We invite you to join us in making Virginia a desirable place to establish homes and to raise our children.

President's Message

As our country continues to go through unprecedented changes in our economic structure, we are all experiencing changes to our lifestyles, both business and personal alike. Whether it be changes to tax law, government funding, school funding or mortgage regulations, we are all conducting business and living our lives in a different fashion from just a few years ago. Change, as we have heard a lot about over the last couple of years, is coming and it is up to us, both as individuals and as an organization, to make the best of these changes. It is also important for us to voice our opinions over proposed changes that can affect our everyday lives. VMLA is poised through educational classes and seminars to educate our members fully on the changes that are in place and give the training necessary to comply with all government regulations and requirements. As your state trade association, we also continue to offer input and voice our opinion on issues that have not yet been signed into law. We do this daily through our lobbyist, Williams Mullen, and as a group, most recently with our Day on the Hill. If you were unable to attend this event, we encourage you to do so next year as it is a really hands-on experience to offer your input to the regulation of our industry.

VMLA has a strong vision and some lofty goals for 2010, and there is no better time than the present to get involved and offer your support to your industry. Whether it be locally through one of our four chapters or at the state level, we need your involvement. There are a number of committees in place to serve the membership and we encourage you to get involved with one of them. Whether your interest is in education or politics, or helping to coordinate one of our social events or our yearly convention, give a little bit of your time back to your industry. VMLA is an important piece of the mortgage process in the state of Virginia, and with your help and dedication it will remain that way.
